UIW Campus

The University is one of the many outgrowths of the original mission that
brought the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word to San Antonio in 1869.
The Sisters’ work began with the care of victims of a cholera epidemic and
the establishment of the first hospital in the city, an institution recognized
today as the Christus Santa Rosa Health Care Corporation.

Incarnate Word’s 154-acre campus is just minutes from downtown San Antonio
in Alamo Heights. The Alamo Heights area is filled with a variety of tourist
attractions including the Witte Museum, the McNay Art Museum, the San Antonio
Botanical Gardens, and Brackenridge Park. Brackenridge Park is home to the
San Antonio Zoo and the Japanese Tea Gardens, and is filled with trails and
other scenic areas to run, walk, or just enjoy an afternoon picnic or barbeque.
In addition to being located in one of the most picturesque parts of the city,
UIW’s welltended grounds, trees, blooming flowers, and classic architecture,
provide a comfortable environment to study, think, and just hang out with
friends.
