Aug 17, 2009: A day in South Padre Island
Today, becaue Jessica did not need to work anymore, we were heading to south padre island for surfing.
From Edinburg, we took around 1-1/2 hr about 70 miles by hwy 83 east - hwy 77 east - 100 to South Padre island. Located on the tropical tip of Texas, South Padre Island is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico and the Laguna Madre Bay. Even though South Padre Island is only a few miles wide, it is packed with beautiful beaches, warm Gulf waters, fishing, boating, bird watching, shopping, restaurants, charters, and a diversity of year-round activities await every visitor.
Gary and Jessica took us to a private beach belonging to Comfort Inn to surf. well, it is not like really surfing but similar to that, although we are not really standing on the board, we did follow the wave to play around.. kind of cool. The sun was really up really early, although we got there around 9:30pm, the heat was a little bit unbearable. After putting all the sunscreen, we started to get into the sea. Here are some pictures....
beautiful sea!
my thought about this gulf of Mexico..... the sea is really salty.. I haven't been in the sea for decade.. this one is the first one and probably will be the last one for this year!! ^___^
Today's lunch was eating PoBoy, the traditional New Orleans dish, which is similar to Subway with fried meat/fish, lettuces, onion, tomato, cheese, pickles together.
It tasted good. Interestingly, while we ordered 5 fried fish PoBoys, but some variation about the contents inside. it took the waiter a while to figure out our order, one without cheese, one without onion, one with extra hot pepper, and two all the way.. it was funny..
Gary and Richard were making fun with the sentence what is ..... Gary often described himself so handsome all the time, like at least 5 times a day. This made Richard was poking back him while he was saying that... it is fun.. Since there were few Asians coming around here , the waiter was curious about where were we come from. the funny point is, everyone except Richard came from Taiwan, but lived in USA, On the contrary, who is American citizen, but would fly back to Taiwan. THAT REALLY CONFUSED THEM. After lunch, we took a little tour around the bay, and pay a visit to the tourist information center... Shopping too.. my award, three t-shirts...
tourist information center
For Dinner, we are eating for another taco restaurant
here is our menu: Pirata
Chicken and Beef tortillas
What a wonderful day...
After a day under the heat, I was tanned.. Although I only stayed in water probably around half an hour, but my skin color at least one or two scale darker... >____________________________________
